Overview

A packaging project for hay fever relief medication.

The brief called for three designs that represented the three versions of the medication:

  • Plus,
  • Lite, and
  • Kids.

The challenge of this project is that the individual packaging needed to be different, but must come together as a consistent style and of the same brand. A mock up also needed to be produced.

As an outcome of the project, I was able to produce print-ready PDFs for the individual boxes using the required die-cut lines and included sections for special print, e.g. spot UV.

Ideation

I researched the current market of hay fever relief medication and found that they typically use images to convey fresh air or colours that feel fitting of the medical space.

To help differentiate NasClear from other products, I focused on playing with illustrations, patterns, textures and colour, to explore how I could imply a feeling of relief and calmness, as opposed to overt imagery like blue skies or photographic images of flowers.

I ultimately decided on creating minimalist illustrations that used the softness and glow of gradients and transparency to evoke feelings of clarity, peacefulness, and soothing relief.

Production

Using the pen tool, I created vector graphics from my sketches, applying gradients for a translucent effect and added particles to imply pollen.

I decided on using solid colours that looked pleasing together but were also contrasting enough to help with differentiating between the medication types, even when viewed from far away.

Regarding the medical information and instructions on the back of the box, I wanted to focus on a layout that was easy to understand and navigate.

I then printed, cut, and assembled each box design as a mockup and finalised this project.
