GAMIT

e-publication

Overview

The brief was to create an e-publication utilising Adobe InDesign and it’s interactive elements, such as buttons, popups, animations, etc.

My e-pub is a video game magazine called “GAMIT”, a name from another project, which features reviews, articles, and other video game journalism, targeting an audience of 18 – 35 yrs of age.

Ideation

I wanted to create a video game magazine that could attract a variety of video game fans.

The magazine would include content varying from reviews to fun content like “top tens”, to articles about in-depth video game journalism.

I wanted to strike the balance of the magazine feeling active, casual and of the “digital-age”, but also be structured and consistent.

This way, the magazine can feel youthful but avoid being childish, as well as feel professional but not unapproachable.

To match the balance visually, I wanted to go for geometric graphical elements with bold colours.

Production

I sketched many different pages on paper to understand the layout I desired and the number of margins and columns I would use.

For visual identity, I stuck to geometric shapes derived from the logo and used a bold blue, green, and red. I chose these colours as they have good contrast from each other, helping to differentiate between articles, and also to call back to the RGB colours, used in all things digital.

I then implemented the articles and images into Adobe InDesign, testing the layouts, font size, buttons, etc, as I progressed and took notes of necessary revisions. I utilised paragraph styles to keep my typography consistent across the whole document.

I also implemented interactive elements, such as animations, buttons, and videos, testing and logging improvements throughout the process.
